American Income Life Raises the Bar in Its Support of the Food for Families Campaign
December 12, 2011
Last year American Income Life employees made the news on American Income Life Insurance Company employees made the news on KWTX in Waco by donating an unbelievable amount of food – 15,000 lbs. to Food for Families. Food for Families is a coalition of food pantries across Central Texas that works together each year in the weeks before Thanksgiving to collect nonperishable food items for families in need.
Employees were determined to surpass last year’s goal, and their determination paid off in a BIG way! Employees increased their donations an amazing 275 percent to 41,360 lbs. of food through a series of food-raising events that kicked off on Halloween and ran for two weeks in November. There was something for everyone from Say “Boo” to Hunger, a garage sale, an employee soup kitchen, a weekend employee campout, and a scavenger hunt.
“At the onset of this year’s AIL Food for Families drive I never imagined we would nearly triple the previous year’s food donations and have so much fun doing it,” says Kathy Lockhart, Chairman of this year’s event. “What an honor it was to be part of something as incredible as this and work with all the passionate people who made it such a success.”
Employees also participated in the massive food delivery to the donation site, which took 21 trucks, vans, and cars. Gordon Collier, KWTX lead news anchor covering the event said, “I have been covering Food for Families for many years, and I have never seen anything like this. It is unbelievable.”
Supporting worthwhile community efforts and assisting people in need come as naturally to American Income Life as selling insurance … and the Company, its employees, and Agents excel at both. Although this was only the second year American Income Life employees participated in the Food for Families event, there is no doubt it has already become a Company tradition. After all, the philosophy of sharing our blessings and supporting the community is the foundation of how AIL does business.

Supporting worthwhile community efforts and assisting people in need come as naturally to American Income Life as selling insurance … and the Company excels at both. The way things are shaping up for this year’s food drive, the folks at AIL just may outdo themselves. The Company has a host of employee and public events planned to get everyone’s generosity juices flowing.
Say “Boo” to Hunger
Fund-raising activities for Food for Families begins at American Income Life on Oct. 31 with Say “Boo” to Hunger. Many Company departments are incorporating ‘food-raising’ into their hair-raising Halloween activities. The AIL department that collects the greatest number of pounds of food for the event is the winner.
Garage Sale
An American Income Life Garage Sale on Nov. 5 is open to the public at 1200 Wooded Acres Drive in Waco, TX from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Company departments will compete against one another to see who can sell the most, and food donations may be accepted in lieu of money. So if your wallet’s running on empty that week, grab a few canned goods out of your pantry and come by anyway. Big bargains will be offered, so come early and stay late!
Soup Kitchen
This finger-lickin’ event kicks into action on Nov. 9, where all AIL employees can enjoy a free meal of beans and cornbread. The American Income Life department that donates the most pounds of food for the meal is the winner of this delicious event!
‘Camping for Cans’
Feel like roughing it? From Nov. 11 to Nov. 13, ‘Camping for Cans’ turns American Income Life’s company parking lot into a weekend employee campground. Friends, family, and coworkers can sponsor campers by making food donations for each hour the employee camps. Whichever company department gets the most donations, wins this event. It will be a weekend of fun, food, and entertainment, and AIL will supply camping equipment to employees who need it. We hope the public will come by, visit with the campers, and drop off a donation of nonperishable food.
Scavenger Hunt
While employees are roughing it on the American Income Life parking lot, a Scavenger Hunt will be held on Nov. 12. Departments will compete to see who can collect the most pounds of food and the most items on the scavenger hunt list. This will be a really fun event for AIL employees!
A large banner will be displayed in each winning department, and the overall winner of the 2011 AIL Food for Families Campaign will be recognized with a trophy or plaque proudly displayed in the American Income Life lobby. Employees are invited to participate in the food delivery to a donation location at 5 p.m. on November 18.
All American Income Life employees, along with the general public, are encouraged to take part in the Food for Families Campaign. Please share your blessings with others and know that many Central Texans will eat and feed their children because of your generosity.
